The purpose of fabric softener is to keep static off your clothing and give your clothes a soft finish. Making your own fabric softener with household items you may already have, is not only affordable but a great way to save the planet.
Here are two recipes you can try out.
Vinegar-based fabric softener
Ingredients
- 1 litre white vinegar
- 10 drops of any essential oil
- an empty plastic bottle (large enough to hold 1 litre of liquid)
Recipe
- Pour the vinegar into the empty plastic bottle.
- Then add 10 drops of your favourite essential oil. We added five drops of lavender and five drops of eucalyptus oil.
- Shake it up.
Usage guideline: Use ½ cup for big loads and ¼ cup for regular loads.
Epsom salt fabric softener
Ingredients
- 2 cups (500 ml) Epsom salts
- ½ cup (125 ml) baking soda
- 40 drops of essential oil
- glass jar
Recipe
Put all the ingredients in the glass jar and shake well.
Usage guideline: Add two to three tablespoons to your rinse cycle.
