Follow these suggestions to dry out your phone if it does get wet.
Let’s start with a few suggestions to help prevent your phone getting wet in the first place:
- Do not carry your phone in your shirt pocket as it could fall into your dishwashing water, laundry water, the bath or the toilet when you lean forward.
- Don’t put your phone in the back pocket of your jeans, as it could fall out when you go to the toilet.
- Do not use your phone in the bathroom.
If you have dropped your phone into water, here’s what to do:
- Remove your phone from the water immediately. The faster you get it out of the water, the better.
- Switch your phone off.
- If possible, take out the battery, SIM and memory card. Also remove your headphones if they’re attached to your phone. It’s very important to do everything you can to help the water drain from your phone as fast as possible.
- Dry your phone and the battery with a clean, dry towel.
- Then shake your phone or hold it in front of a fan to help release the water.
- After this, place your phone upright in a bowl of rice, couscous or silica gel.
Tip The crystal-type cat litter is made from silica gel. So, if you have a cat, place your phone in your bag of cat litter.
7. If you don’t have silica gel, rice or couscous, place your phone in the sun in an area with good air circulation.Good air circulation has been proven to be highly efficient in drying out a wet phone.
Give your phone a few days to dry before you try to turn it on again. Do not be tempted to switch on your phone too soon.
If your phone doesn’t switch on, then try one of the following:
- Try charging your phone for a few hours.
- Alternatively, try inserting a new battery.
